Get away from it all… spend your vacation at a McCloud hotel. The McCloud River Mercantile Hotel is in an historic setting surrounded by the beauty of tall pines and the grandeur of Mount Shasta.
We offer beautifully appointed accommodations that reflect McCloud’s history. Rooms have been meticulously restored with period specific details from the 1890s to the 1940s. Come enjoy one of our ten suites from the Arts and Crafts Room, Railroad Room, Hot & Tot Room, to the Shasta Wintu Suite. We offer spacious rooms with luxurious amenities you will not find elsewhere. Our rooms are furnished with antiques, unique decor pieces, and accessories that contribute to the historic restoration of this special Northern California hotel.
Many of our rooms include king size beds, feather down comforters, whirlpool or claw foot tubs, and exquisite historical designs. We offer romance and family packages that take in the beauty and the adventure of the area. The rooms offer breathtaking views of Mt. Shasta as well as views of the quaint architecture of the surrounding historic buildings
Many of our interiors have 12' ceilings, historic finishes, windows, and large private bathrooms. Several of them have double vanities and a separate water closet. Our bathroom floors have radiant heat to keep your feet warm during the winter months. All rooms have central heat and air conditioning.
We also offer two suites that are handicap accessible for our disabled guests or seniors. These large rooms have many of the special amenities of the other guestrooms. This includes breathtaking views of Mt. Shasta, king size beds, radiant heat, and whirlpool tubs. There is also an elevator and handicap ramp to assist you with your travels and luggage. The Mercantile has been retrofitted for your convenience and access. We are more than happy to oblige.
Our restaurants and shops are located on the first floor of the Mercantile. We offer The White Mountain Fountain, a 1930s era soda fountain café with breakfast, lunch, and a nostalgic fountain and desert menu. The Sugar Pine Candy store offers a large selection of old fashion and handmade candies along with great coffee, drinks, and sandwiches. Children as well as adults are in awe when they step into our turn-of-the-century candy store. For shopping, we offer The McCloud River Mercantile Co., with a variety of general merchandise, vintage lines, apparel, apothecary, gourmet foods, fine wines, and ales. Also located in the Mercantile is Shasta Reflections, specializing in their own handmade jewelry line and women’s dress apparel. The McCloud Book Gallery has a wonderful ambience and a great selection of books, music, and cards. Guests have commented that “the Mercantile is a fun place to be during a winter storm because you can keep in touch with folks in the stores and cafes or find a quiet place to read a good book all under one roof.”
The second floor of the Mercantile features our Great Room where we have receptions, wedding parties, yoga retreats, seminars, art exhibits, and business conferences. This room can be booked for any event you may have with a maximum capacity of 150 people.
We are located in the historic downtown district of McCloud, California. With easy access from highway 89, it is also part of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway All American Road. We are a 15-minute drive to Mt. Shasta City and Lake Siskiyou. McCloud is the closest town to the Shasta Ski and Board Park and Mt. Shasta Nordic Center. We are also within 5 miles of the famed McCloud River, McCloud Waterfalls, and the Pacific Crest Trail. World-class fly fishing, mountain climbing, nature trails, and scenic beauty surround us.
So remember — in today’s hustle-bustle world — we can often forget to appreciate life’s special little moments:
Hiking in the woods, rekindling romance, a fishing trip with your child or loved one, buying penny candy, sipping a milkshake in the soda shop, playing board games, talking to an old-timer on the porch, enjoying the stars and the quietness of the night; that is what we offer…
A chance to slow down, and make memories…
